the mad scientist does not wear the "hello, my name is" tag
OK, so this has been turning up everywhere today, so I figure I should write about it, too.
A physicist working on his own has proposed a new "theory of everything".
Yeah, yeah, new theory of everything, big deal. Apparently, though, this one has physicists kind of excited. It's got some nice things going for it. It only requires 4 dimensions, as opposed to string theory's (the current leader in the TOE race) 11, it incorporates gravity, and it's apparently testable, which string theory doesn't seem to be. If this is really a breakthrough in extending the Standard Model, it's very, very cool. Even if it only provides new insight into extending the Standard Model, it's cool.
It's things like this that almost make me miss being a scientist.
